My 50 pound lab plays pup up all day! It's just below the water level where she can swim to, get up and then jump back down to hunt the bugs. We have a pontoon boat and she can climb the last few steps of the ladder into the boat if she wants to get out of the water. ALWAYS fasten the seat belt to the boat BEFORE attaching the ramp to the ramp or you will eventually see your pup sink to the bottom of the lake. A fast wave can knock it out of your hand and attach it to a ladder, and it's heavy enough to sink like a rock. The only problem is that it covers the whole stair, so you have to move it if people want to use the stair. We just leave it dangling from the harness all day until the dog wants to play and then just put it back on the stairs. The ramp also folds down for easy storage on the boat. All in all a fantastic purchase!
