But then why springs on the lower hinge? If all 3 joints were articulated it would be a solid 5 stars. Overall this is a good light, especially for the price. I suspect the manufacturer added these locking screws as a design "improvement" after several reports of the lamp tilting. Newer LED lamps are much heavier than older incandescent lamps and the lamp can tip over with a slight movement of your forearm. If you remove the set screws, check the stability of the lamp by doing a wobble test (press lightly and see if the trend returns or flips).
