Every time I tell my friends I bought a sharpening stone, they ask me if it's expensive. I bought it for less than $40 so it's already a great value. I really like the base that comes with it. Very strong, very confident. It doesn't move. I still use a towel underneath to help with the water. I'm new to sharpening so I'm still trying to figure out my angles and everything but I've found this stone to be very forgiving. It's grainy enough that you can quickly correct your mistakes on the go. The processing side is also very good. I have to remember not to apply too much pressure. And like I said, I'm still trying to figure out my angles. Despite being a total beginner, I was able to get my knife to cut through paper. Not with the buttery ease of others, but good enough that cutting afterwards was satisfying. Vegetables, fruits, meat, fresh, frozen. This stone definitely helps once you become familiar with it.
