I love beauty and a thermometer. There are 2 disadvantages:. (1) Since it doesn't have a whistle or auto shut off, the plastic parts holding the thermometer to the lid will melt and burn if you neglect/forget to catch it before the water gets too weak. I've bought this kettle twice - I blamed myself the first time only to have it happen again the first week I had a replacement. Of course, it's my own fault for not keeping up with the times, but with people getting distracted or interrupted, I wish there weren't pieces of plastic in there that could melt and burn so quickly. When the manufacturer sees this review I hope they will contact me to send me a replacement cap with a thermometer and most importantly I hope they will change the mount so there is no melting plastic inside the device. (2) After a while, the thermometer stopped measuring accurately. Replacement written, no reply. so frustrating!
