I was looking for something that would flake off more effectively than a regular washcloth or stool. They are very soft and don't flake more than I thought (8 x 3.5 inches) which I liked, the rope was good until it came loose and I couldn't find the hole to put it back on. I've only used one so far and after about 2.5 weeks the rim started falling off and onto my tub. So now the other two are in my garage for general cleaning. I would say they are good for washing cars or anything that requires a softer sponge and is not intended for everyday use on the body. They don't splinter at all as they are very soft. If you use them for a gentle touch on your body they are great but I wouldn't use them on a daily basis and wouldn't expect them to exfoliate you.
