Thule Mounting Kit for BMW E36

I use this mounting kit in combination with Thule 480 Traverse Foot Pack and Thule Square roll bars on a 97 foot BMW 328is coupe. This car and all 3 series 92-98 2 door models have chassis code E36 and will use this kit. At the time of purchase, Yakima did not offer a suitable roof rack for the E36, so I went with Thule's solution. Pros: The build and feel of this product is very solid and the rubber is grippy. After installing the car roof rack, I was able to grab the crossbar and shake the whole car. The stand didn't move. I'm not worried about this thing slipping and ruining the paint on my roof. Cons: When installing the luggage rack with the spacers included in the kit, the two rear legs will fully touch the roof of the car. However, the front two legs mostly touch the roof, and the inside rear corners of the legs have a slight gap between them and the roof of the car. This doesn't seem like a problem, but as mentioned in the pros above, you can rock the whole car by grabbing the cross member and the strut won't slip off. There is a star deduction for the break. Other comments: I regularly carry two mountain bikes between the California Bay Area and San Diego, a 460-mile ride that hit 80 mph. The Rack and Fit Kit hasn't given me any problems so far.
