broken locking mechanism
All metal construction, standard 1" diameter, perfect for neoprene pads. The hex nut locking for the needle tip works fine, but I hadn't screwed 2 of the 4 parts tightly enough to the metal tube (supplied) at the end of the vise, rendering them useless as they won't stay in place. I would have preferred a regular lock with a hex nut on this end as this screw design is not suitable for this purpose. They aren't cheap so I expected them to be of decent quality but 2 out of 4 isn't very good.
