Review on 🌬️ MANN-FILTER C 43 139 Air Filter: Enhance Air Quality with Superior Filtration! by Eric Currie

Great filter, now Mercedes just needs to make air filter changes easy

I love German cars, I really love them. Nothing drives like a German car. But some manufacturers (like Mercedes) complicate what should be easy. So I bought this filter for a 2014 GLK350. The filter works great, fits great, no problems. But getting a filter box out of a Mercedes is a real problem (they could learn a lot from the Japanese when it comes to serviceability of things we don't need dealers for). I've had BMWs and Porsches and they were easier, but Mercedes keeps making it harder for some reason (by no means impossible, but on most cars you don't usually have to remove the airboxes, you just remove the covers from the clips, or as in my old BMW, you just pull out the tray and replace it). On the Mercedes, you need to remove the 10mm bolts, attach the throttle bodies to the mass air flow sensors and air intake ducts, and remove the entire device to hack it and remove the filter. Have you ever changed your cabin filter? also funny. Tip: On a 2014 GLK 350 you can do this without removing the ENTIRE airbox. Just make sure the engine is warm, then remove the two 10mm torx screws and slide them up after removing the front air intake bushing. Then unscrew the three plastic torx screws (that won't come out) and open it up like a clam. You can then slide the filter out if the bed falls apart. Remember when you reinstall it that the alignment hinges are bottom up. You know if that is the cause, if not then you are unable to tighten the 3 plastic star screws that close the clamshell.

Pros
  • A gasket that provides a tight and efficient seal is critical to the operation of the air filter, every MANN-FILTER air filter has an optimal housing profile for OE fit and tightness
Cons
  • I like it not really not, everything is fine
