the speed matched well, so distance and time should match.

iGPSSPORT iGS10 Overview This device can be used in selection mode, which uses GPS signals for speed and distance data, or a wheel speed sensor can be added to collect this information. Other sensors can be added, but I have not tested these devices. I will describe my experiences with and without the wheel speed sensor. A la carte mode (without wheel speed sensor). I compared the iGPS10 to my Garmin GPSmap 62st on a hike that had a lot of forest cover for most of the route. Tree coverage affects most (probably all) GPS devices and the iGPS10 is severely impacted in this situation. Garmin 62st is much less sensitive. 62 shows approximately the correct distance according to road signs, while iGPS10 is less than a mile away. Travel time (which for the iGPS10 is travel time) is also a long way off as the signal is completely lost and therefore no speed reading is available for a significant portion of the route. On a small section of trail where there was no tree cover, the speed values matched well, and therefore distance and time between units should match. With a Wheel Speed Sensor The addition of a wheel speed sensor eliminates all of the above issues and the speed and distance moving between units throughout the movement time is fairly constant. With a wheel speed sensor, the iGS10 should be more accurate than the 62nd, but I didn't test that directly. Altitude and Slope Accuracy The iGPS10's altitude reading was not very accurate, with errors of 100 feet or more. The Garmin 62st was much more accurate. All my trips have been near sea level and I don't know if the accuracy will improve at higher altitudes. An error of 100 feet at 5000 feet is not bad. The pitch accuracy is surprisingly good. On my home road, where I physically measured a 13.5% incline, the iGS10 showed between 13% and 14%! It takes a little time to gather the data needed to determine the pitch, so the roll track may not be as accurate, but very good if the pitch is smooth. standalone iGPS10 will probably work just fine. I think most people would be happier if they added a wheel speed sensor.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires power outlet
