Review on πŸ“· Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM AF Zoom Lens - Optimized for Sony DSLR Cameras by Kristopher Tight

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent IQ. Slow and inaccurate autofocus. Average sharpness

A potentially good lens if it weren't for a couple of serious flaws, namely the autofocus. Image quality was good. I would rate it 3 out of 4. IQ was good but not impressive. The sharpness was slightly better than the Sigma ex dg 28-70, but no better than the "beer cans" 70-210 and certainly worse than the Tokina 11-16 ATX Pro or Sigma DC 18-35 A. Not only that was the reason for my return. This lens had autofocus issues. AF worked sluggishly with frequent failures. Almost a third of all my shots were slightly distorted and I forgot to focus πŸ‘β€πŸ—¨. Colors were fairly neutral and cool, less saturated than Minolta lenses. No matter how good this lens is, it shouldn't miss half the frames. The problem may have been with the particular lens I was given, but I tested it on a tripod against a stationary subject and I don't think it was a front or rear focusing issue as it focused better in optimal conditions . and autofocus issues were intermittent rather than constant. Anyway, I went the other way and got the standard zoom equivalent for my apsc case which is the Sony dt16-50. Overall much better. The focus is always correct and very fast. decent color. Much sharper. Just a little more distortion at the edges. I'm just concentrating on the fixes for my full frame body. There are already Minolta 28mm 2, Sigma EXDG 50mm 1.4 and Minolta 85mm 1.4G. Here you are significantly better than the 24-70EXDG.
