Not the best but well above average

Not the best, but well above average. When I bought it, I got soft images at wide aperture (f2.8). but after some research I soon learned how to tune it. I don't know if this happened with all lenses or just me. but after adjusting the "micro focus" I was happy with my purchase. Has a little trouble focusing in low light, so I switch lenses for night shots on the beach. The golden mean is 5.6. At this aperture it is super sharp. OK, one more time. definitely worth the price

2 years later still in love.

I love this glass. I'm a mammographer, sometimes I work for money. I have a Canon 6d and usually have this lens on it. I will be selling the 24-105 f4 L that came with 6d. Great lens, but I like this one better. 2.8 is amazing, making it a great low light lens. I can't compare it to the Canon 24-70L because I've never used it, but for the price and if you're not a pro (even if you are, in my opinion) you can't go wrong. If you receive a bad copy, Revain can be exchanged easily and free of…

Works well for me

After reading other reviews on this lens I have come to the conclusion that getting a 'good copy' is important. I have no idea what percentage of these lenses are poor quality, but I must have been lucky. I've been shooting with it for a few days and so far the images are great and reasonably sharp. I couldn't get enough and 24-70 is now my go-to lens for the Nikon D7000. This is a well made large diameter lens. On the D7K, it's almost out of proportion. I'll leave the technical discussion to…

Sigma has a winner with this lens!

Like many people here I tossed between this Sigma 24-70 2.8 and Canon 24-70 2.8L and 24-105 f4 L after using this lens before committing to this lens purchase felt a little good. I'm so glad I did! This lens is very durable, well built, focuses very quickly and accurately, and is half the price of a cannon. I tested this lens with my friend's Canon L and also I can't tell you the difference between the two photos in terms of color and contrast and we both agreed that the Sigma appeared sharper…

Focus issues and live view

I really liked this lens for my K-5 and really wanted to like it but it just can't focus at all on my K-5 in live view. Just jump around everywhere. When live view is off, focus shifts slightly and photos look underexposed and washed out. All my other Sigmas work fine (10-20 zoom, 24mm prime) on my Pentax K-5. With this problem I ordered the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspheric (IF) Aspheric (IF) Lens for Pentax DSLRs and it works great, great focus, lighter weight, smaller…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Decent IQ. Slow and inaccurate autofocus. Average sharpness

A potentially good lens if it weren't for a couple of serious flaws, namely the autofocus. Image quality was good. I would rate it 3 out of 4. IQ was good but not impressive. The sharpness was slightly better than the Sigma ex dg 28-70, but no better than the "beer cans" 70-210 and certainly worse than the Tokina 11-16 ATX Pro or Sigma DC 18-35 A. Not only that was the reason for my return. This lens had autofocus issues. AF worked sluggishly with frequent failures. Almost a third of all my…

Fast Sony/Zeiss

As a sports shooter, I mainly use my Sony 70-200/2.8 for shooting money. However, I need a lens that allows me to get a wider angle, as well as some close-up shots when the athletes are almost face-to-face with me. For over a year I was quite happy with my Tamron 28-75/2.8, but the focusing was too slow. Note that the Tamron is a great lens. I would rate the image quality as good as the Sigma. He concentrated just a millisecond slower. But if faster focus speed doesn't bother you, then the…
