I've been through several USB-C to HDMI 2.0 cables. All had unreliable connections, which I found to be a common problem with Surface Docks, i.e. the Surface device detects external monitors but the monitor isn't receiving a signal, or the Surface screen turns on/off as if trying to connect external monitor. After a few days of research I found out that the cables that people have been using with no problems are gold plated. Coincidence? I'm not sure. I replaced my Surface Tablet, Surface 2 Dock, but the issues remain. Swapped the cables, bam. Everything works without problems and as intended. Right now, my setup includes two external monitors that connect DIRECTLY to Surface Dock 2, and all I do to turn my 12.3-inch tablet into a desktop workstation is simply plug in my Surface Pro. 7 to the docking station That's the whole point of paying $250 for a docking station. to connect one monitor to the dock and the other directly to the USB-C port on the Surface Pro 7. PS I have updated all system software and even spent countless hours on the phone with Microsoft product support to make sure everything is ok and even got asked to replace them as they were recently purchased. In hindsight those were returned Products probably not defective.
