These are good shorts. I had never heard of "board shorts". After some research I found out that these are basically swim shorts with no mesh lining. You can "command" with them, or maybe wear underwear underneath. Of course you can use them in the pool or at the beach but I would recommend them in places like a water park or theme park with water slides or anywhere outdoors where you expect to get wet but also want your child to be comfortable in walking . . Sometimes walking in this mesh lining can be uncomfortable. My son usually wears a size 12 and they are a bit tight for him. However, sometimes he has to go to Husky sizes, so maybe choose a larger size if your child is the same size. However, he likes them and plans to wear them while swimming.
