Review on πŸ”ͺ DALSTRONG Premium Whetstones: Top-Grade, Highly Durable Tools for Sharpening by Michael Hogate

Extra large sharpening surface

I have some Dalstrong knives. I find her sharp and beautiful. However, I didn't want to buy whetstones due to the rather high price (you can get a cheap double-sided stone for about a third of the price of this set). I decided to give it a try after watching many videos showing different grades of whetstones and different sizes! One of my favorite problems with sharpening is that the stones are too small and risk sharpening the blades unevenly (especially without a guide). The larger the stone, the fewer mistakes you make, especially with small blades like pocket knives or paring knives. To rate the Dalstrong sharpening stones: Here's what I like about them: - These stones are big! See attached photos compared to standard stones - 2 separate stones (one for 1000 grit and one for 6000 grit) - Good wood base (acacia) - Good presentation box (a little overkill for sharpening stones) - 2 more stones included: one for Remove rust (which rust? I've never had rust on Dalstrong knives), the other to smooth the stones back out (Nagura stone). - My knives are razor sharp for almost the first time! (with leather sling) What I like least: - From 1000 to 6000 is a big jump... I think I miss the 3000 in between - The smoothing stone isn't big enough. If I'm correct, the leveling stone needs to be larger than the whetstone to ensure a perfectly flat surface (it's much smaller) - Dalstrong is exaggerating when they say it has twice the surface area of the competition. Look at the pictures, the beige is my old stone and the rusty is Dalstrong. It's clearly not twice the size. Conclusion: I don't regret this purchase at all. It's true that now all the other whetstones I have are a bit useless. I like being able to sharpen the entire blade at once on small knives. 5 Stars.

Pros
  • Incredible value: Offers two separate precision sharpening stones made from the highest quality corundum (aluminum oxide). Bigger, oversized and thicker stones for more surface area as well as a better investment to ensure your prized knives retain their long-lasting scalpel-like edge and maintain peak performance.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
