Creates an airtight seal.
They cover more pipe surface than I expected from the pictures which is good. They have created an airtight seal and I'm sure they will hold tight over time without the tubing twisting like U clamps do. I may never use these U-clamps on lap joints again, assuming I can get a tight enough lap joint to begin with. My comments apply only to this version (33226) of the collar, which is designed for lap splicing.
