Review on πŸ–Œ 24-Piece Watercolor Pencil Set by Royal & Langnickel by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A great way to experiment with watercolors, especially on the go. Good price

I really liked this box of ESSENTIALS with a dozen watercolor pencils from Royal & Langnickel. Out of the box they look like almost any colored pencil: Twelve colors (purple, red, light green, orange, dark green, yellow, cyan, pink, blue, brown, black and white), pre-sharpened, ferrule enough as an eraser on the other end. In fact, however, they are dense watercolor pencils. Usually, the artist first sketches the lines with a dark pen or pencil, then paints all or part of the drawing, and then applies a wet brush to the colored part, where (voila!) it turns out to be watercolor. (You can also dampen the paper first, I'm told.) Well, no one expects the delicate tones or blendability of expensive colored pencils, or the blendability of traditional canned watercolor pots, but they're certainly easier to use, cheaper, less messy, and of course perfect, if you want to pack all or some of them in a small carry bag to sketch in real life (Hello Urban Sketching!). If you don't add water to the paint, what you get will look like a regular hard crayon, giving you double the stress on each pencil. Every aspiring "street artist" deserves to try them at some point in their career.

Pros
  • Pencils
Cons
  • Without automatic
