I thought my device was broken when I first plugged it in because when I switched to the VCR it was still showing the "welcome blue screen" for DVD. I heard someone had the same experience with S-Video so I tried Composite Video (yellow RCA) - same story. It wasn't until I plugged in the RF output connector (phew!) that I was able to see the video from the VCR. Strangely, I was able to play audio through the line out, but I couldn't use any of the video jacks for the line out. I thought my device might be broken so I called the support team. After I hung up the phone a couple of times they finally said you can only see the VCR through the RF out. Since I have a Tivo I don't need to connect my cable to the VCR - I just want to watch tapes. So my cable is already connected to my TV/Tivo. I could connect the RF output to my TV's second RF input, but who wants to switch between my TV's RF input jacks and potentially leave it in the wrong state and ruin a Tivo recording? time to send it back. Please note that the user manual does not mention anything about this. Sounds like S-Video should last forever. I'm still not sure if my device isn't just broken or misconfigured. Why would a line out switch audio if it can't carry video? But their tech support doesn't listen or help and tells me that's how it's supposed to work. My goodness. If anyone has a different experience please share because if it really *works* I would give this device 5 stars.
