Definitely not a substitute for gum

I have tried this clay on various products. I'm an artist and I do a lot of shows. I sculpt and thought it would be fun to make some simple sculptures that the kids that come to my shows will love. I first tried fridge magnets and the first little kid to try them broke a leg and tail on a horse I made. I thought maybe I didn't squeeze them well enough in the uniform or I overcooked them. Then I decided to make flexible toys built around a reinforcing wire frame. I figured if I made it thin enough and didn't bake it more than 15 minutes it would work just fine. But it cracks anyway. I've made 4 different creatures, tried different techniques each time, and they keep breaking. And all the really thin, small details become solid right away. The bottom line is that this clay does not stretch and has limited bending, even when fired properly. I can't make a shatterproof toy for kids, it just doesn't work. They're fun and can make lovely gifts if handled with care, but gross child's play will break them to pieces.

Pros
  • clay and dough
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
