My son is a size 5. He has outgrown his 4T clothing over the past few months. I ordered a small for this jacket; as I like to have two winter coats and this will be the lighter of the two. I thought it would fit well but it's too big. I've just looked back and the small size is actually a 6. I'd rather it be a bit bigger than smaller so I'm fine with that as kids grow fast, but the small size is fine for an average 6 year old. The jacket is very light. The hood is practical because it goes all the way to the front, you can tuck a hat underneath and it's easy to put on. I hope it's warm in here since we live in Minnesota but like I said that's an optional winter jacket and for cold weather he has a ski double layer ski jacket.
