Check your size.

My son is a size 5. He has outgrown his 4T clothing over the past few months. I ordered a small for this jacket; as I like to have two winter coats and this will be the lighter of the two. I thought it would fit well but it's too big. I've just looked back and the small size is actually a 6. I'd rather it be a bit bigger than smaller so I'm fine with that as kids grow fast, but the small size is fine for an average 6 year old. The jacket is very light. The hood is practical because it goes all…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as bulky as other options

Nice but order one size bigger

The jacket is very soft, light, my son likes it. Good for "cold" per se, and I think with layers you could get warmer under 30 (just a guess at the moment). I haven't tested the water resistance, but the material handles light rain well and dries fairly quickly. Washed, dried and everything seems fine. inside pockets. Down jacket style but not over the top and a lot more flexible than some of these styles so it feels like she can actually move. Increase the size if your child is not small/thin.

Pros
  • Working without hands
Cons
  • Very expensive

Excellent for the price!

I bought this jacket purely as a warm layer for day hikes and emergencies. It will live in my son's backpack that stays in the car, so I deliberately bought it too big. For reference, he is 9 1/2 years old, 56 inches tall and weighs 59 pounds (SUPER lean). I have an XXL, which is of course 1 size larger. Normally he would certainly wear XL in this jacket. In the real world he wears a size 10/12. If it was down filled it would be perfect but I didn't feel like dropping the prices and I was tired

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Only available in black
