Review on Tripp Lite 3 Outlet Portable Surge Protector Power Strip, Direct Plug In, with $5,000 Insurance - SK3-0 by Justin Metz

This surge protector was just 4 months old at the time.

This surge protector was only 4 months old when our 1 year old TV broke. A few minutes after the power surge, I smelled burning electrical wires and realized it was coming from our TV. The TV stopped working with our soundbar. I jumped through the extensive hoops installed by Tripp Lite and had to spend $12 to send them my surge protector to test. Surprise! They checked the surge protector and said they were voiding their warranty as the surge protector showed no sign of over voltage. I even had paperwork from our electric company confirming that a power outage and subsequent power surge had occurred minutes before the smell of burning wires. Tripp Lite does not test surge protectors with an unbiased third party. The test was carried out "in-house", so that it is of course determined that the overvoltage protection device has not failed. I wanted to share my experience with this company so that others can make an informed decision. All of the surge protectors in our house were Tripp Lite because I thought I could trust them. Now I have the extra expense to replace them all. They didn't champion their product and I lost almost $800. A quick google search reveals this has happened to others as well. Each person's experience with the warranty/claims process was exactly the same as mine. The customer sent a surge protector (as requested by Tripp Lite) but no 'problems' were found so the warranty was not honored.
