the block makes a very annoying clicking noise when switching on and off. The sound level measured at the fan grille is 70 decibels, not 49 decibels. The exposed wireway next to the top of the heater for wiring is a major aesthetic downside to this unit, which you would otherwise buy for its clean, modern look. The heater heats up normally. Update 3/14/2020: I have modified this unit by moving the cable entry hole on the back down and into the part of the back panel that is closer to the wall. This made the hard wire connection less noticeable. I wouldn't expect this to change the fan noise level, but it will void the warranty. A year after I bought this one I bought a new one because I was sick of the noise and having made changes to the hole in the wall where the 50 year old heater was it would have been easy to install a new one. The device is hopefully quiet as they announce. So I bought a new one and installed it. That stopped after a few weeks. I sent it back for a replacement. The replacement was DOA, who died on arrival. Never turned on. For those watching, that's 3 heaters. When examining the last received original (I still have it) you can see the Stiebel Eltron factory sign with the inscription "made in Germany". Inside is a label that says Made by Embpapst. In the lower right corner of this tag is the name of the country Serbia. I'm not sure what part of the device needs to be made in Germany to get the Made in Germany designation. not made in Germany. Maybe there are no such quality standards in Serbia?
