This is a lot of fun! My daughter got it yesterday for her 8th birthday and was thrilled. She has already carried out 2 projects. I find the materials to be of high quality. Nice sturdy box and drawstring bag for easy storage. Easy to follow instructions. Two minor problems: scissors aren't ideal for trimming thread; The self-adhesive parts are tricky to work with - the sticky part will come off when you peel off the backing paper if you're not very careful. You may want to use your own scissors and glue. The needles are plastic and not sharp, which is perfect for this. I think this age is suitable for 7-10 years old kids. My daughter was basically independent with him. We only helped peel off the self-adhesive parts and tie the knots. They also advised where to leave the darning hole.
