I bought one for myself and recently bought one for my daughter to use on our laptops - both run Windows Vista. You may need to go into the sound settings and make the USB sound card your STANDARD and keep that option. After that, if you don't plug in the USB sound card, it will revert to the original sound card setting, so you won't be left without sound. JUST DON'T TREAT IT - and treat it right and it will treat you right :-) The main reason I bought it for myself was that my HP laptop's built-in sound card didn't even provide decent microphone recording quality. This little gem (USB sound card) did it! It has NO special effects or anything like that, but it's good value for money. And of course it delivers better sound than my laptop. My daughter still doesn't know how to set up hers - I need to set it up for her. While I haven't tried it on XP, I believe XP installs with little to no problem. I haven't tried it and don't know anyone who has. But I don't think this will work on Windows 7. Windows 7 is a tricky beast when looking for the right sound card to use for recording/singing and high quality effects too. If anyone finds such a sound card for Windows 7, please let us know.
