Review on Universal Auto Disc Brake Caliper Piston Wind Back Repair Replacement Tool Kit by FIRSTINFO by Dennis Black

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good product but there are better alternatives.

I ordered this kit to complement my Blue-Point YA8610A for configurations I don't have an adapter for. The features that caught my eye were a set of adjustable 2 and 3 pin adapters and a more modular slide tool that I could assemble myself. the idea that it might ease hard landings and some wobble. The build quality seems appropriate for the intended purpose. It's not as heavy as my Blue-Point but doesn't feel cheap in use. The build and use is very similar to the Blue-Point, so the lack of a small bar makes the T-handle on the push pin ok for me, while others find it problematic. Adapters fit through the non-standard end, which is unfortunate as it is not compatible with other products that use a 3/8" or 1/2" 2-pin magnetic drive. As such, the adjustable adapters in this set can only be used with this tool, unlike the adapters sold separately which use the more common 3/8" drive. This makes this set a disposable item as the pieces can only be used as a set. The kit comes with no user or care instructions. The adapters have rubber-like O-rings to ensure a tight fit in the pressure bolt. It seems to wear out easily and should be lubricated to reduce wear, but it isn't mentioned anywhere. Also no part number or sizing information if replacement is required. The pressure pin is another point that should be lubricated. Just like a ball joint press and other tools that use a screw bolt to apply force, thread lubrication prevents excessive wear and seizure for smooth use. There is also no mention of it or a guarantee if you don't, resulting in premature tool failure leads. The main feature of this set are the adjustable adapters. as mentioned before e, these adapters can only really be used in this kit. Overall they appear to be well built and like the rest there is no mention of lubrication which seems fairly important given the adapter's internal construction. This not only expands the possibilities of the adapter, but also reduces sticking, which can quickly lead to the 4 screws loosening and the adapter falling apart. I believe this kit is for the non-professional just servicing their own car and possibly the family car. here and there. With this in mind, not having instructions is a huge mistake. The tool supplier should provide clear instructions to enable the user to get the most out of the tool. he does not succeed. If I look at the exact phases of use, such a user would be better off opting for one of these 20+ sets of left and right thrusters. The extra hassle of finding the right adapter is easily offset by the ease of use of the one-piece thrusters in these kits. Not to mention, this kit is not compatible with single pin adapters or anything other than a balanced 2 and 3 pin configuration. There is also no compatibility with vehicles that require reverse rotation. If you are looking to buy a set I would avoid it as there are better options. If adjustable adapters are desired, purchase an adapter kit that only uses the 3/8" drive end to mount to the tool, and then just get another tool that also uses the 3/8" end. This kit is $35 and a set of 2 adapters (with the 3/8" end) is $25. Since you can buy individual tools with a 3/8" end for about $10, you're spending about the same and you'll end up with a better set. If you have multiple tools in the box for a variety of tasks, this kit offers a 3-pin configuration that is not well represented in multi-adapter kits. However, it's better to just buy a set of 3/8" end adapters and use them with your other tools, even if it's a regular 3/8" extension ratchet. I'm giving 2 stars out of 5 because while the set works, it's not as versatile as the 20+ piece sets that are also sold at a lower price. However, this kit will fit many mainstream vehicles and is also a somewhat specialized addition to those that have other kits in their box, particularly in relation to 3 pin delta applications.
