Review on SilverStone Technology Tempered Mid Tower Micro ATX by Jim Diaz

Great budget case

This is a great budget case with a few minor imperfections that are to be expected and can easily be remedied when planning your assembly and wiring. I highly recommend this case as a good budget option for anyone looking for one of the smallest cases suitable for an ATX motherboard. I used it to upgrade an old almost 10 year old PC build (i7 3770k, 16GB DDR3, 256GB SSD) and now use it as a 2nd PC at home/work from home. Pros: 1) Silverstone build quality, attention to detail (e.g. creative use of cable anchor points). 2) Excellent airflow, especially with additional fans. I have a 2x140mm front air intake and 2x120mm rear/top rear. Size 3. This is the smallest ATX case I could find (apart from a much more expensive variant like the Sliger Cerberus X). That's why I chose it over the NZXT H510 as it's smaller and has better airflow thanks to the front mesh panel. 4) Easy to embed, but make sure you have extra zip ties. Always connect the 8-pin EPS connector to the motherboard before installing the motherboard into the case (and all cables to the required connectors on the top of the board, such as 4-pin fan connector, CPU cooler etc.). Cons: 1) PSU cover fits snugly. A full-size ATX power supply will do, but there is very little space between the top of the power supply and the top of the power supply cover. The cable routing holes to the back of the PC/top of the PSU shroud are unusable (ie you can't route and hide the HD audio cable). Increasing the distance between the PSU and the top of the PSU shroud by 10-15mm would be a nice little improvement in this case. 2) Cable management is average. There are no channels or attachment points. At $65 at this price point, that's to be expected, but the NZXT h510 can be bought regularly for $70 and it's here. However, there are good cable anchor points, and with zip ties and some wire cutters, effective cable management isn't much of a problem. If you're using a 3.5" hard drive tray, I would recommend a modular power supply as hiding extra cables from a non-modular power supply can get a bit tricky, but it will work. 3) Tempered Glass (TG) is simply screwed on. 4 screws (no captive screws) so it just snaps in place and once unscrewed can just fall out Small issue and again a cheap case but the NZXT H510 has a much newer/better TG mount.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • For seniors
