Review on ASUS Strix XG27UQR Gaming Monitor - 3840x2160p, 144Hz, Anti-Glare, Blue Light Filter, Flicker-Free, Tilt Adjustment by Anish Assasin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor, frequent backlight

Finally upgraded to XG27UQ from my old TN 60Hz 4k Samsung Ud590d 2014. This is my first IPS panel and wow the picture quality improvement is amazing. Everything is sharper, clearer. 144 Hz is a big difference. Even desktop scrolling is smoother. The FPS and racing games I play (Halo, NFS Heat, BFV, etc.) get a huge boost from this. The build quality is good. Technically, this is the "budget" version of the PQ iirc. The most important thing for me is that there is NO FAN in this monitor. I am very sensitive to the high pitched sound of fans under 80mm. I get goosebumps, sweats, migraines, sound work. Luckily I can confirm that this monitor does not have a fan. G-Sync support seems great, and no G-Sync module is worth having a fan in your monitor. For me anyway. Now for the "neutral" and "bad" parts. The configuration is a tangle of hassles that I was still fiddling with a day after receiving it. I'm still not sure what looks best. The default is race mode. I use the following settings at night in a very dark room (the only light source is the monitor) I sit 2-4 feet from the monitor (relevant later) Custom Mode Brightness 70 Contrast 50 Special Settings Off Shadow Enhancement Level 3R 90 G 95 B 100 It does look though best for me, but some games are a bit off. I think I'm trying too hard to reproduce my old monitor. It seems that with such a big step, some games will look different. The absolute worst thing about this monitor is backlight bleeding. If you sit close, about 2 feet, it's very bad, at least on my device. This monitor taught me to sit further. Looks perfect when seated 3-4 feet apart. However, you can't get close. Overall I give this monitor a 7.5/10.
