My block is somewhat erratic in its results. It took several tries to find the beam above the "popcorn" ceiling. Although the lack of full contact with the ceiling could affect the results. Works much better than my previous cheap spike finder. Features are good, especially the central locator, metal detector, and AC detector. What I want to see; so the device emits a tone when metal or AC current is detected, rather than just a very small icon that lights up. Update: I re-read the instructions and noticed an important difference between finding wooden sticks and metal sticks + AC wiring. For wooden stands, turn on the device with the front button and then place the device against a wall and THEN calibrate it with the side button. But if you're looking for metal studs or checking AC wiring, then turn it on with the front button, and before leaning it against the wall, press the side button and calibrate it IN THE AIR, THEN place it against the wall.
