Review on Walker Exhaust Ultra EPA 16098 Catalytic Converter - Direct Fit by Olajuwon Achille

What happened to the build quality?

I bought 1 of these for a customer who was due to receive the car over the weekend (I did another repair and found other problems with the car). The top flange of the converter was round instead of pentagonal. I wanted to hold the top shield in place so I had to bend it a bit. The heat shield welded to the converter covered 2 of the bolt holes so it required more bending just to get the bolts in place. Even after that I couldn't get the bushing onto the screw heads to tighten properly so I found some 10mm head screws at my shop. The bottom flange has large unthreaded holes for the studs so I had to find screws for that! A tube approximately 1/2 inch in diameter runs through the exhaust flange to hold the annular exhaust pipe and fits into the torque converter flange to improve sealing and protect the annular coupling from direct exposure to exhaust gases. The bottom flange of the converter was welded at an angle, with large welds inside the flange preventing the bottom edge of the exhaust pipe from bottoming out inward. It's as if the converter was copied but never tested for installation in a vehicle, or an employee has too many tags when manufacturing the converter. Direct landing on my ass!

Pros
  • Catalytic Converters
Cons
  • Almost never
