Review on Fluval External Fish Tank Filter by Natasha Gibson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

If you are looking for a silent filter.

I recently purchased a Fluval 406 with a 55 gallon goldfish tank for my living room. I have used the 306 in a public 55 gallon tank in another room for the last 3 years and it has done its job perfectly. I had a Penn Plax Cascade 1500 in my goldfish tank but the impeller kept changing and was noisy. The sound of the engine was so loud that I had to turn up the volume on the TV. The Fluval uses more water even though the canister is smaller, making it easier to remove it from the tank pan for cleaning. Very quiet. Set up was easy and I had no issues with water flow on launch. I set up my media trays a little differently than suggested since I don't use carbon. As soon as everything calmed down in the aquarium, the water became crystal clear. In another review, someone reported that Hagan will not honor the warranty on filters purchased through Revain. I called Hagan's customer service and they told me that if the purchase was made through a reputable dealer, including Revain, and not a private individual, the warranty would be honored. The only negative I have to say about these filters is that the water inlet/outlet hose that comes with the system is ribbed instead of smooth and I have some concerns about cleaning it. in summary. Ultimately, I am very happy with the Fluval 406.
