Once figured out, it works well.

I finally got rid of this filter after weeks of frustrating reboots, swapping, cleaning etc. Reload it about 100 times to not fix it, it couldn't be the impeller (ha) I will To put it as simply as I can without tank vocabulary because I don't have one: Make sure the hose *shoots water back up the tank* SHORTER and closer to the canister than the hose that *draws water out of the tank* Mine was the opposite and prevented for physical reasons (free energy, etc.) that enough water flowed through…

If you are looking for a silent filter.

I recently purchased a Fluval 406 with a 55 gallon goldfish tank for my living room. I have used the 306 in a public 55 gallon tank in another room for the last 3 years and it has done its job perfectly. I had a Penn Plax Cascade 1500 in my goldfish tank but the impeller kept changing and was noisy. The sound of the engine was so loud that I had to turn up the volume on the TV. The Fluval uses more water even though the canister is smaller, making it easier to remove it from the tank pan for…

Torture Device - Aquarium Pumps and Filters

I have a Fluvial 406. This filter has to be the worst if not the worst filter I have ever bought in my life. I am absolutely AFRAID of changing the filter and waiting as long as possible to do it (unfortunately to the detriment of my fish) knowing it will be an excruciating 3 hour operation. I'll start with the weight of the filter. It is very heavy when filled with water. Every time I start changing the filter, water runs down my wooden floor. Impossible to unhook and wear without spilling…

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Crumpled

Filter OK but design flaws

This is my first external filter so I have no comparison. Moves a lot of water silently. However, be aware of two design issues. Every problem is a problem, but every problem is solvable if you are willing to work with it. First, some reviewers addressed the issue of microbubbles. I had this problem too. The microbubbles were enough to make the water look cloudy when you were just a few feet from the aquarium. After several conversations with CS, I found that there was nothing they could do to…

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Functionality

Last summer of 2017 I entered the world of Pisces. that canister filters are the best. After doing more research, I found the best reviews for Fluval. I bought Fluval 306 in November '17. It's quiet and within 3 days my 65 gallon tank was crystal clear. I liked how quiet the filter was. However, I've heard a rattling noise every now and then for the past few months. I googled and found this to be a common problem when hitting a canister. No problem. However, over the next few weeks, I began to…

UPDATE: not that leaking

Update: I have to say the Hagan/Fluval customer service is pretty good. However, the first person I spoke to a few weeks ago did not provide such a comprehensive analysis of the filter issue as this second person did yesterday. However, a second person told me that the leaks I found in the filter were due to the o-rings on the pipe assembly and throughout the filter. I thought the leaks were due to the large o-ring surrounding the entire pump assembly, but that wasn't the case. God, another…
