Review on Giro Code Techlace Cycling Shoes by Brian Evans

Race Day Game Changer

I tested these spikes while endurance riding off-road to keep fit during the "lockdown" in California. So you've seen a bit of everything in the country, including moderately technical corners, steep climbs and twisty singles. As a result, they delivered confidence-inspiring power transfer and stability. First impressions were unconvincing as they weren't as tight compared to my Izumi X-Project 3.0. But it turns out I didn't fully tighten the laces and BOA. I'm a bodybuilder, so I make sure to break things. But since then I've been amazed at how much stress this system can handle. I can pull and twist until my legs feel like they're being squashed and still all the gears work just fine. This fit system does exactly what Giro says. The laces/Velcro has a "flexibility" that doesn't interfere with the connection with the insole. This combined with the Boa grip creates the perfect balance between comfort and performance. I posted a video of reverse uphill because these spikes have proven effective at times when sudden bursts of power through the handlebars are required to get through a section. The Easton carbon outsole is unmistakably linked to the drivetrain. This bike has a special "brain shock" that is known to pulse through the pedals when activated. With these boots, the pulsation feeling is more noticeable. I have to assume that this is due to the continuity of torque and leverage between the cleat and the pedal, allowing for a more direct connection between the foot and the drivetrain. Full Disclosure: This is my first spike with a carbon sole. I first looked at the Giro Sector with a "carbon composite" outsole, which I believe is a combination of carbon and fiberglass. Not only do I have no regrets about choosing the Easton EC70 carbon sole, I don't think I would ever want anything less. The soles have a certain stiffness that gives my feet leverage that they didn't have before. It feels like I'm being pulled up by a tractor beam because the momentum generated by pedaling is greater than my mind and body would expect. In terms of dimensions, they correspond exactly to the Giro Fit Chart. My feet fit into the quarter size category rather than the half size category. This is not a problem with everyday shoes. But with racing spikes it becomes more obvious. That's why I highly recommend trying Giro's "supernatural kit". In my opinion, after inserting the red round arch supports from the installation kit, one could not have found a better pivot. I've been trying to think of any negative side to these spikes, but nothing really comes to mind. The Boa/Lace system works as promised. The Easton carbon outsole offers remarkable stiffness for power transfer. With a supernatural fit, these boots look like they were made to order. And the Vibram outsole made cycling that much easier.
