Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far so good (still like it after a few weeks)

Only had it installed for a few hours but so far so good. I usually take my time before reviewing it, but since there aren't many reviews out there yet I thought I'd put mine in if it helps someone decide. First, as others have pointed out, the instructions are terrible. If you've never installed a car stereo this is probably not the place to start, but if you have then skip the instructions. The wiring harness is fairly basic and follows industry color codes. encoding. I installed this in an old Ford truck, so I didn't have a steering wheel control, antenna or amplifier. The weirdest thing about the wiring harness that came with the radio is that it had plugs on both ends, one for the radio and the other for something else (maybe China has standard plugs for all cars?). When you buy an aftermarket stereo it usually has a connector on one end of the wiring harness and the other end is a bare wire, but not this one. You will need to cut off the other end so you can attach it to your own adapter for your specific vehicle. Once you have the wiring harness assembled, do yourself a favor and connect the green "park wire" to the ground wire. This will make the radio think the parking brake is on and you can watch videos without parking. The brake must be applied. Another thing that can be a little confusing is the rear camera wiring. The rear view camera comes with a video cable with a short red wire on each end. You connect one of these red wires to the pink wire on the harness radio, the other red wire connects to the positive wire of your car's reversing lights, and that signal triggers the radio to show the backup camera when you're reversing. I hooked up my Samsung Galaxy 7 and after a lot of trial and error I figured out screen mirroring. It worked well, but syncing required a lot of fiddling. I had to put the phone in developer mode first and then enable USB debugging. I did, everything worked. I was able to set up a Google Play account. for radio and downloaded Waze directly to the radio, which made me very happy. This worked fine, but the watch and Waze didn't seem to sync. UPDATE: The clock and Waze worked after I set my location and time zone in the main stereo settings. Although I originally had the master clock showing the correct time, it wasn't set correctly with location, time zone, etc. Simple solution that solved the waze problem needs to add it to my dashboard even better. It didn't fit well but I think the problem is the Metra double din to Ford adapter. My first impression is that this is a good device for the money. I'll play with it some more tomorrow and update the review when I have more time with the device. Update 2 weeks later: I managed to clean my installation. Completely dispensed with the Metra double din adapter for Ford. Either this radio isn't a true double din, or the Metra isn't, and while you can fit the Metra adapter by cutting it off, there isn't room on the front of this stereo to conveniently reach the buttons. I only used the side tabs from the Metra Ford kit because they had holes for the mounting bolts. This stereo comes with a decorative ring that snaps in and I've only used it to fill most of the gaps around the factory dash hole. As you can see in the picture, it would be better if I leaned it back a bit from the top. It's pretty doable and I know if I tinkered a bit I could get a stereo that would fit my dash better, but it's so much of a hassle with my truck getting the dash in and out that I thought it was fine was enough. If your car only has a small decorative piece then cleaning is a lot less of a hassle and well worth it, but on these older Ford vehicles you'll have to remove the entire front fascia and then reattach it to see how far it's gone. Like I said, it wasn't a fun time, so I decided to have a pretty good one. After a few weeks I really liked this device for the price I paid. It only really annoyed me once. The screen started freezing and then flickering. There's a power button on the device, but all it really seems to do is turn the display on and off, but the device restarts every time you start the car. This way I was able to fix the problem by simply turning off the car to restart it. I have a couple of minor gripes: if you're listening to music and launching Waze, the stereo will still mute when the traffic bulletin flashes, even if you've muted Waze. on Waze (the car stopped at the side of the road, the camera moved forward, etc.). You can download music directly to a micro SD card and play it using the built-in Music app, but it doesn't have shuffle. I know it's minor and I'm sure I can download an app better suited to the task, but what music player doesn't support shuffle? Another issue is that there's a port for the front camera and a built-in app called MyDVR, which has buttons that indicate it's taking pictures and videos, but for some reason it doesn't recognize the front camera. I was hoping to set up the dashcam but can't get it to work. I've even tried different dash cam apps from the app store but since they seem to be made for phones I can't connect a camera to RCA. If anyone found a way to record from the front camera, I'd love to hear about it.

Pros
  • SWC & WIFI & 4G
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for seniors
