Bought this for my daughter's house to ensure she and her roommate can get out safely. We asked them to test it out to make sure it hits a reasonable distance that they're comfortable at. We tested this to ensure the window sill is large enough to hold it and does not require a larger 'hook' for the current window. Each thing is well tested and it is convenient to use by putting it in the window and making the transition from the window to the stairs. It gave me less worries! I'm not sure how much weight this thing can actually carry.
