Small children find it difficult to turn around.

Seems strong enough but my 7 and 10 year old grandchildren had trouble putting it in. The video I posted was their third fire drill and you can see what happened.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Does not fit all

This is a reusable security product

Inexpensive and reusable. Read the description on your ladder before purchasing. Many of them are for one-time use only, but you can't practice with them. Practice is very important for children. They will do what they are taught. It has to be drilled into them, otherwise they will panic if there is a fire. Give them the confidence to do what is necessary when/if a disaster strikes.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Not Secure

Dangerous and incorrectly assembled

Dangerous! Connect in reverse order. It took me a little time to unpack and test this ladder. My 14 year old daughter can probably attach it to the window but the ladder is attached to the window hooks backwards making it impossible to use. Legs that should go against the house would stick up in an emergency. I agree with other reviews that if assembled correctly this ladder will be difficult for young children.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some disadvantages

Checked and delivered in case of emergency.

Bought this for my daughter's house to ensure she and her roommate can get out safely. We asked them to test it out to make sure it hits a reasonable distance that they're comfortable at. We tested this to ensure the window sill is large enough to hold it and does not require a larger 'hook' for the current window. Each thing is well tested and it is convenient to use by putting it in the window and making the transition from the window to the stairs. It gave me less worries! I'm not sure how…

Very happy with First Alert 2-story fire escape

Very happy with First Alert 2-story fire escape. Just tested it with my son (climbed from the ground up) and overall I'm impressed. It doesn't have the stability of a real ladder, it twists and moves as you go up, but that's to be expected. This is another reason we practice fire safety, to be aware of these things and not panic when the time comes to use them. I have 180# and felt safe with it. I actually climbed all the way to the window and apart from being a little scared of heights I…

Quality, durable construction is a must

This emergency ladder features a convenient emergency release strap that also doubles as a 'tie-strap' to hold all rungs in place during storage for quick and easy movement and storage can simply be out of the window in an emergency. Haven't had to use mine yet but it seems very sturdy and has a quality finish without being overly heavy. I've tested and modeled it carefully so I'll know how it goes when the time comes. Just having this in my second floor rooms makes me feel safer. This is the…

Don't wait for a fire to break out to open this box: worst product ever!

Instructions are useless. The picture on the packaging is unusable. The product is quite heavy so good luck for kids or those not strong enough to hang it out the window and figure out how to hang it. Also, good luck figuring out how to securely connect it to the windowsill as other reviewers have said it doesn't seem to be done right. It takes special luck when it opens up spontaneously and then quickly gets mixed up, everything gets mixed up. I spent 1/2 hour trying to unravel it so I could…

Pros

Our home is three stories, the ground floor is semi-subterranean, we have 10 foot ceilings and the bedrooms are on the third Floor. We have 10 ft ceilings plus 5 ft subfloor which is 25 ft from bedroom windows to floor. This ladder was an easy purchase for my husband and I. We have one in each of our bedrooms. As a family we had LOTS of fire drills where each of the kids practiced attaching a ladder to the window and climbing down. Our neighbors are used to it. In fact, after seeing the fire…
