Definitely worth using them over the cups that come with the gate
We bought a pressure grid for the base of our stairs. Reading the installation instructions before ordering, we found that they recommended screwing the included little cups to the wall to hold them in place. We didn't want to put holes in the wall, so we went for it. They work great. They were easy to assemble, held the gate in place well and protected the wall from damage.
