Having a webcam with optical zoom is great! They are hard to find at reasonable prices. This is NOT an autofocus camera and as mentioned, it's quite difficult to get even close to focus. Both the zoom and focus have thumbscrews to lock them in place, and once you've set focus there's enough depth of field to deal with a little head and/or chair movement while seated at your desk. A 5-50 lens seems fine for general webcam work, you only need a 2.8-12 lens if you want a wide-angle lens to get multiple people close enough with the camera.
