Review on πŸ“» Retevis RT5 Dual Band Walkie Talkies with Long Range, Flashlight, Police Handheld Radio, VOX, Rechargeable 2 Way Radio with Earpiece (2 Pack) by Jim Shirodkar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good walkie talkies but very poorly designed and cheap charging station.

Bought these walkie talkies for our RV from Arizona to Yellowstone National Park. These are great long range walkie talkies. With high transmit power (7-8 watts) we had 2 to 3 miles net range in mountainous terrain. Much better than Motorola's walkie-talkies that advertise 36 miles of range at 3 watts. The reality is that even with 7 watts of power, you're lucky if you can get a 5-6 mile range. Motorola should shut down with these ridiculous range claims! The Retevis RT5 is a well-built, feature-packed walkie-talkie that feels and performs like a much more expensive walkie-talkie. My disappointments: 1) The charging station is very poorly constructed and not durable. It is very difficult to get the walkie-talkie to sit properly in the holder so that it charges. I bought two of these walkie talkies and one of them stopped working. A redesign of the charging station is urgently needed. 2) The power cord that came with the charging station does not fit the outlet marked on the battery itself. Why on earth would you design it like that? Why not design it so the AC plug plugs straight into the walkie-talkie so those of us with 110 outlets in our cars can plug it straight in to keep the power going while driving? Despite the charging station and the inability to plug the walkie-talkie directly into the 110's car power supply, these are excellent walkie-talkies for the price and I would highly recommend them.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Minor issues
