Low quality. Not high in carbon. Terrible tailor.

I understand this knife cost $9 so I wasn't expecting much; but from the moment I got my hands on it, I realized it was junk. I don't know everything about knives and steel, but I know a lot (I've been making knives for over a year). The knife blade is very blunt. It's a bit spicy but makes for a terrible slicer. Also, the blade doesn't even look hardened. My plan was to modify the knife into a good general purpose knife for hiking and camping. I took the file to the edge and she stuck right in (not much). I also tried heat treating and it didn't affect the hardness. In any case, he softened. Again, I don't know everything about steel, but this knife is advertised as a 1095 and I'm familiar with the ins and outs of the heat treatment. I don't think it's advertised. In short, I think this is a bad knife and bad steel. I can pay another $5 and get Mora or something.
