Exceeds Expectations

Over the past year I've gone through about a dozen panniers and been drawn to heavy duty waterproof flip top bags. However, they are impractical due to the screw cap and usually lack many of the useful features that can be found here. This bag set is amazing. Each bag itself is well made and waterproof. I ride a lot on muddy trails and roads, so the side pockets can take a lot of pressure. No leaks from the occasional downpour and basically a constant barrage of muddy water. I like to tie things up instead of wrestling with reels and clips. There is no locking mechanism for the trunk hooks. That wasn't a problem for me, even though I ride an all-terrain bike. Clasp hooks used to fall off and I lost my bag under a car in traffic. Since then I have used small straps and carabiners to keep my bags in place regardless of the hook mechanism. Because these bags have multiple attachment points, they easily attach to the bottom of the bike frame. I use the shoulder strap connection points to tie them on. There is only one shoulder strap. That's not a question, just a comment. When I carry all the bags on the bike I usually carry a backpack and only carry the other two bags. I can't say I've ever used a shoulder strap as just carrying the bag by the handle is enough. Maybe if I used it as a tote bag, but I'm not. I had a small issue with the side bags rubbing against my rear wheel when I first tried the kit. The sacks were not filled and the material was still deformed from transport. This does not happen with many things in side pockets. It takes a long time to fill though, so I cut a 4 inch wide strip of plastic to fit in the pockets as a construction of sorts. It keeps the bags in shape when there are strange items in them, like my shoes or a can of coffee beans. The backpack straps are not soft at all, but they work well enough. I prefer them the way they are so they don't get in the way. On the back of the backpack is a simple sleeve for storing shoulder straps. It works well as a laptop sleeve when you don't expect protection. I don't use the backpack in this set very often as it has more storage space than I need. It's going to be very nice even though it's camping season in the Appalachia. I can definitely recommend this bag set. The price is almost deceptively low for what is offered. The bags are well made and very functional.
