Eheim makes some of the best canister filters and the 4+ Professional Series is no different. If you are familiar with canister filters, the overall setup is easy. The instructions aren't the best, but any online tutorial can easily explain the installation process. The supplied filter hoses are generally too short, so you may need to purchase a few extra hoses to get to a larger aquarium. Out of the box the filter is good, with a few adjustments in the media basket it's great. Eheim is one of the few filters that actually gives you a good amount of organic environment. Substrate pro is a very good porous medium for bacterial colonization. It comes with a lot of mechanical media that is a bit redundant, but the extra space in the basket allows you to set up any other media you want to add. A lover of classic Eheim canisters, the Pro 4 is its more modern cousin. The Classic series are awesome, reliable, simple in design and built like tanks. Your only limitation is the primer. The Pro 4 series has a primer built in, but loses some of what made the eheim classic a legend (heavy and reliable, bottom-up flow pattern). Overall, this is definitely a very good filter.
