I have a swimming pool about 30 yards from my house and a garage about 50 yards from my house. The Ubiquiti hotspot covers the back of the house and the pool deck, but the garage is outside of reliable WiFi range. The Homeseer zNet home automation node, which uses 2.4G WiFi, went down intermittently, so it's time to tackle the wireless bridge to provide a failover connection. After looking at many products that met my needs and reading online reviews, I purchased the CPE220. Some of these reviews criticized the lack of installation instructions. After purchase, I received an email from the seller that detailed instructions had been sent. Very active! Unpack, all parts and documentation included: POE wall warts, master station, slave station and two ethernet jumpers for POE, metal strap clips for attachment. You need Ethernet cables to connect the master to your LAN and to connect remote devices to your slave station. So if you don't have spare cables in your inventory, consider buying them. After a quick setup, the CPE220 master and slave power up in the same room, pair and select working channels with no hassle. The bump test worked with an Ethernet connection to a laptop from a slave accessing the LAN and WAN on the main network. Worked without any problems. The next step was to read the manual more carefully. The CPE220 has several features and configuration options that are well documented and relatively easy to manage. So far no changes have been made to the default configuration. The master was mounted at the back of my house across from the garage and the slave was mounted on an interior wall in the garage. It turned out that the network worked through two walls at a distance of 50 meters. The CPE220 has a web interface that displays signal strength levels and other configuration information. Through the walls, the power level fluctuated between -59 and -62 dB, strong and stable. The next step is to install the POE switch, camera and garage access point connected to the Ethernet port of the CPE220 slave. Everything worked from the start. I then designed a PVC mount for the slave and reoriented it to point at the master, resulting in an improvement in signal strength from -54 to -51. As mentioned earlier, there are several other advanced features that are available over the internet. Interface is the default address 192.168.255.xxx, which requires a slight change in the configuration of the computer being accessed. There's also a power level adjustment, which I reduced due to the short 50 meter distance. Overall, this device works flawlessly, setup was trivial, and the price was good. Customer service and communication was excellent and proactive.
