Review on Estwing E3 16C Hammer Metal Handle by Miguel Escobar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

16 ounces. Hammer is now 1 inch shorter?

I bought one of these Estwing E3 hammers over 40 years ago and it has hammered a lot of nails and other stuff. Eventually the claws failed and the nails that were pulled out got stuck in them, requiring a lot of extra effort to get the nail out of the claws. So I ordered a replacement for the next 40 years. What do you know? In Easting's infinite wisdom, the new hammer is an inch shorter than my old one. My dead eye is now offset by an inch and I hope it doesn't take me years to get used to the new length. Are they saving money by saving on rubber grip material, or is it the faster shipping? Who knows? Just beware of this issue - the quality seems good. Time will tell if the new steel is as strong as the old.

Pros
  • Hammers with Claws
Cons
  • Expensive
