Just what I needed to overwinter my banana plant!

I'm an avid gardener in the Seattle area and we have a semi hardy banana plant growing in our yard that needs winter protection to survive in our zone 7 climate. I've tried various methods of protection over the years, including ferns and bubble wrap, but each winter the plant died to the ground. He'll be back next summer, but he never managed to get more than a meter tall before the first hard frost. Then last year I had the brilliant idea of wrapping it in Christmas lights and some emergency "space blankets". I had blankets wrapped around several bamboo poles set up like a teepee, and while that worked well, holding them in place with clothespins, binding clips, and zip ties was a major problem. The blanket kept blowing away and by the end of winter it was pretty much torn. It was worth it though, because for the first time the banana plant picked up where it left off in the spring and had grown to over 10 feet tall by the end of last summer! I stumbled across these sleeping bags at Revain this fall and decided to see if it would do even better. As soon as we had our first hard frost and the leaves died I wrapped the stem in Christmas lights and put a sleeping bag over the plant and it fitted perfectly. We had a couple of blustery winds and the sleeping bag wasn't disturbed in the slightest. Only time will tell if the spring banana will return like last time, but the results so far are very promising. As an added perk, we now have a large translucent metal cylinder filled with blue lights in the center of the courtyard. It looks like some kind of transporter from a bad sci-fi movie.
