Can't comment on durability but it can outlive the bike. We had a coral reef girls bike that came with training wheels and no kickstand. It bolts directly into the hole behind the main seatpost in seconds. The screw was long enough that it was easy to install if you had a good set of allen wrenches (the ones with angled ends). It goes down and back quite easily, has a good spring and is adjustable. The adjustment feels good and holds the bike well. You will obviously have problems with bikes where the brakes activate when the paddles go backwards when the paddle reaches the footrest and forces you to lift the rear wheel. These kids bikes are too small to fit a rear kickstand so you just have to take care of it.
