I actually ordered the product assuming the name means 'fish safe quality'. Then I saw reviews describing muddy water and dead fish. I have lost roosters in the past due to my own negligence. I washed the gravel with the hottest tap water. By stirring and rinsing, all impurities could be washed off and poured out together with the overflow. Chipping of paint was most noticeable, and the first two flushes showed an alarming amount of black, ash-like pigment. , I cooled the stones and added the appropriate water for cleaning, mixed, then drained. I've added rocks and never seen a hint of haze. They're covered in paint, and it's a chemical. Leftovers are unavoidable and must be carefully removed before being placed in the aquarium.
