If you use this product you MUST purchase hearing protection

We have had several Oster blenders over the years and have an older version of this in our country house (it's great although quite old). These blenders have always been durable and excellent and I really appreciate the fact that you can use jars with different models. HOWEVER, it is so horrific that I can hardly find the words to describe it. First, it's unlikely to make a smoothie out of it! Even with an ice blade, it often grinds to a halt when I add protein energy, nuts, and berries to the milky yogurt base. Even if you crank the power to the max level, sometimes it just stops blending. Second, and more importantly, this blender really is so loud that you MUST wear hearing protection when using it or your hearing will be affected. I bought a couple of these: Etymotic Research ER20 High Fidelity Earplugs (Concerts, Musicians, Airplanes, Motorcycles, Sensitivity and Universal Hearing Protection - Standard, clear stem with blue tip) and kept them next to the mixer. Trust me I lost my hearing to loud noises and this mixer is in the highest decibel range. Or the blender is about a year old and now it's starting to give off that horrible smell of burning electrical parts when it's running. It's never been used for anything other than cocktails and it can't even do the job. I believe this is probably an inferior version of a previously well-made mass-market model. I am very disappointed in Auster.
