I have been a long distance runner all my life and I love that running is an inexpensive, low maintenance sport. I don't believe in spending big bucks on gear - I always buy running shoes on sale and don't bother too much with clothes. A $50 shirt doesn't make you faster - running fast and doing lots makes you faster :) The only thing that always amazes me about marathons is how my poor legs fidget. Blisters, dead toenails, whatever. I thought I was wearing regular socks - I wasn't wearing the cheapest cotton socks but I bought 6 packs of one brand that was $10-15 a pack. Then I decided to try them and my life changed. It's really worth the investment if you're a long-distance runner - I get far fewer blisters when I have them. I can't believe it took me 20 years to figure this out. I've tried other brands of socks for $10 and up and love them all, although these are probably my favorites and they come in a variety of fun colors!
