Review on ☕ Efficient Brewing: Calphalon BVCLECMP1 Temp iQ Espresso Machine with Steam Wand by Mario Anderson

Reliable basic espresso machine!

The Calphalon Temp IQ espresso machine is a good basic espresso maker for preparing a variety of espresso beverages. The cup warmer also works well with a plastic warming plate. I find it best to turn the cup upside down when warming up. The coffee maker does not come with a teaspoon for measuring ground coffee into the one- and two-cup filter baskets. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the right amount of coffee in each cup so the tamper fits in exactly the right position as directed. The portafilter is tight and requires two hands to fully eat it in the closed position. The rubber feet on the machine are not large enough to hold the unit in place when installing the portafilter. The legs are hemispheres and don't make enough contact with the tabletop to create enough friction to hold the device in place when the knob is turned to the locked position. You have to hold the device with one hand and lock the portafilter with the other hand. Once in place the timed brew works great and the indicator light shows when the brew cycle is complete. While the two-cup filter basket can be used to brew two cups of espresso, it is not suitable for brewing two cups of espresso beverages at the same time, as the pot is large enough to brew one cup, giving you two cups of espresso . Espresso in one brew, but you need to froth two cups of milk in a row to get enough frothed milk for two espresso drinks. If you like double espresso shots, then a mile-sized pitcher is fine for a single espresso drink. The drip tray hides storage space for the second filter basket and cleaning pen, which is great for keeping all parts in one place. The filter basket is quite difficult to clean after brewing. A good quick swipe on the instructions still doesn't completely empty the reservoir. It is better if you leave the basket standing until you have frothed the milk and prepared the drink. It still doesn't free the entire washer due to the large amount of moisture in the basket, but more than if you tried to empty it right after brewing. The enclosed instructions also express this recommendation. Overall the machine was easy to set up and use and made really good espresso with great crema. (Yes, my husband forgot to wipe down the steam and water wand right away in the video. LOL)
