For me, WD was reliable but the most expensive, and Seagate was cheaper but unreliable. So when faced with two traditional options, I settled on the third option - Toshiba. I bought a Toshiba 4TB 128MB drive about two years ago and it's been a champion to me - great performance, great reliability, great value. why I went back to the 8TB 256MB version for extra drive. I'm happy with a CrystalDiskMark6 score of 204/193 on 8TB drives, and even the old 4TB drive is getting 150/143 after two years of daily access (this is my gaming drive). But I join the chorus in noting that the 8TB drive is audible during seek/defragmentation, at least compared to drives from other manufacturers. Whatever other companies do to reduce the noise of their drives, Toshiba doesn't; You will hear this characteristic hum during operation. However, you should be aware that there are compromises to be made for such a lower price. Where this drive doesn't skimp is on performance; That's what I wanted, along with saving a few bucks. Loud performance is an acceptable trade-off, you can get a quality drive at a good price.
